About Oklahoma SILC
 
Mission:

“The mission of the Statewide Independent Living Council of Oklahoma is to provide the leadership in guiding the state’s planning process for independent living services so that needed services are available statewide.”

Vision:

The Statewide Independent Living Council of Oklahoma envisions a political, social, and economic environment that plans for and actively promotes equal access and full integration of people with disabilities in society.

Purpose:

The Statewide Independent Living Council of Oklahoma (SILC) was established in compliance with the provisions of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and as amended in the Rehabilitation Act of 1992, Section 705, herein to be referred to as the Rehabilitation Act. Specifically the duties and responsibilities of the Council are to:

bluedot_bullet Jointly develop and submit, in conjunction with the Department of Rehabilitation Services (the Designated State Agency), the State Plan required in Section 705;
   
bluedot_bullet Monitor, review, and evaluate the implementation of the State Plan;
   
bluedot_bullet

Coordinate activities with the Oklahoma Rehabilitation Council established under section 105 of the Rehabilitation Act and in accordance with the State Plan, and Councils that address the needs of specific disability populations and issues under the Federal law;

   
bluedot_bullet Ensure that all regularly scheduled meetings of the SILC are open to the public and sufficient advance notice is provided;
   
bluedot_bullet Submit to the Commissioner and Governor such periodic reports as the Commissioner may reasonably request, and keep such records, and afford such access to such records, as the Commissioner finds necessary to verify such reports; and
   
bluedot_bullet Other duties and responsibilities as may be contained in the State Plan for Independent Living.
